Artist Statement

Through my AP portfolio, I wanted to show how people conceal and reveal their emotions and identity through art, with my guiding question being, “what do we conceal vs. what we reveal?”. As someone who struggles being vulnerable with their own emotions, I have found that through my portfolio, I am able to express this struggle. My main medium, Adobe Photoshop, has come from my love of graphic design and digital art and has influenced my technique in my portfolio. I have found that layering many images, while still keeping a visible aspect of the original, has added a second meaning to my work. Not only am I revealing emotion and personal traits/ habits through my art, I am also literally revealing and concealing different parts of an image within the piece as a whole. My goal for my sustained investigation is for someone to see my work and feel a little less alone in their own vulnerability.
